Frequently Asked Questions

Answers:

1. I have set up my event and registered players but when I try to do the draw there are no players in the competitor list.

In order for the player to appear in the competitor list window the player MUST be assigned into a flight. If you created the flights before you registered the players, they would be automatically assigned into the first flight (Default for all events is one flight and you must set this up). Other wise the player would not be in a flight. You must return to the event set up screen and Create at least one flight for the event. Then return to the Player registration window and assigned players into their flights.

See the user’s guide for more detail.

2. When I’m doing up a prize list and wish to back up to edit I can’t find out how to do it?

The way the prize list works is that you create the list by pulling a player from the top of the list in the "results" window. To remove a player from the list only the last player in the list can be pulled. This is done by using the same drag and drop process but in the opposite direction.

The "results" window cannot be edited as such, nor can the Prize List. The results are presented in order of standing including tie breaking, within the event overall and by flight.

3. How do I preset handicap divisions or can I set your program to auto sort to (approx.) equal numbers of players … I need a fast way to set flights!

This is a good question. At the present the system does not place competitors into flights. This is a manual process. We have a planned enhancement to automate the process that will be published in our planned product release in February of 2005. Flight building is complex to the extent that there are many different ways to "build" flights. for Example by Age for Juniors and Seniors, By Factor, By first round scores. Other considerations impact the process as well such as Professionals being placed into their own flight for open tournaments while "Flighting" the amateurs on HCP factors.

At present the only means we provide is manual. This is done generally as part of player registration. When the event is set up you specify the number of flights and then on the "Flights" Tab of the Event Set Up Function create each flight and give the flight a name. As players register place them in their flights. You can make some final adjustments after all the entries are in and even after the draw is done.

4. How do I set up the (auto) draw for eg; flights, handicap, gender (mixed) … or can I?

In the "Draw" screen the list of competitors available and can be sorted by HCP Factor, by prior round net score prior round gross score or team number. Once you have sorted the list Autodraw selects players from the list and places into foursomes accordingly.

The sort is performed by clicking in the column headings above the list of competitors. You can sort in ascending or descending order simply by clicking the column heading again and again.

5. When I’m doing up a report for winners of all flights, all gross and net winners (which I can do with "Event Prize Awards List") … can I also print the hole by hole scores with the countbacks in the same report? I find that on occasion members question the ties/countbacks and it is handy to have it easy to find.

While the tie breaker detailed report is available you cannot combine the detailed results with the "Prize List" nor the quick scores report. The "Results Report" for individual stroke play presents all the details as well as the tie break sub-totals for both gross and net tie breaking. This report is lengthy and depending upon the size of your field and the speed of your printer might take 1-25 minute to print. The Prize list can be prepared in a very short time as can the quick scores report. The results report is good for small fields but is primarily an "Audit Report" that can be used to explain the tie break and verify the hole by hole scoring has been completed correctly.

6. Will this program track and update handicaps using only data from this if we wish? What I mean is that we would like to use members handicaps that are based entirely on the scores posted during our weekly competition?….kind of nice to have but not mandatory.

This software does not compute handicaps. Because we have a "generalized" product we cannot assume the filed is made up of member/competitors or the like. For the various open tournaments and the Zone events that use the product we have to deal with entrants from various courses and the BC Players Club etc.

The software does have an advanced feature for importing HCP Factors from your handicapping system. The process requires two steps. You must be able to export the player IDS and HCP Factors from your handicap system. and then you can reformat the file and import the factors into the GolfMaster database for a specified event. As a condition to doing this, you must record the Player ID Code used in your handicap system onto the Player database. Once this has been completed only your changes and new members will need to be set up. For example. We are running the JENNCESS HCP system at our course. MY Login ID is my "Member Number" at my course. In GolfMaster 2001 in my player database record I have the number recorded there as well. This allows an exact match when loading from one system to another.

7. Can you run a 2 man best ball tournament with the Callaway handicap method. I know you can run the Callaway system on an individual but could not find out if was possible in a team event?

The only available scoring method for a team best ball event is either net or gross score. Callaway Scoring is in place only for individual play events.

There is a specific reason Callaway handicapping is not used for team net best ball. Team net best ball is based upon the best net score attained by a member (s) of a team on a hole by hole basis. Callaway scoring is done as an adjustment to the final score for a competitor. It is therefore not possible to determine a specific hole(s) where a stroke is to be taken in the context of "best" ball.

8. We are running an individual stroke play tournament for our men’s club championship and would like to run a team best ball at the same time. Does the software support this?

No. The current software does not support "concurrent" events derived from the same set of scores. This feature will be in place for our next release in Feb 2005. We have completed initial development of a change to the existing "Prize Builder" feature that would allow you to set up and manage a best ball tournament and record the results as appropriate and then use the prize builder to identify and report individual results within a best ball event.
